The Jumbo Book of Short-n-Simple Science, Grades 3--6

Discover 120 science investigations that are safe, short, and simple enough to be completed in one class period. A wide variety of learning activities involve each child in fun, yet sound, scientific inquiry. Topics include: "our five senses"; "plants"; "animal groups"; "earth and ecology"; "weather and climate"; "changes in matter"; "energy"; and "force and motion." The first activity in each section is an overview of what will be learned in that section, and can be used to introduce new vocabulary. Each activity within a section develops a key concept. You can choose to do all the activities in a section or focus on a select few. Most require only materials that are readily found in most classrooms. The activities may be done as a whole class, in small groups, or set up at a learning center. Some activities require adult supervision, and some can be extended into a science project.
