1. IS IT SPRING YET?
It's almost that time of year again---the long-awaited season when the sun stays out longer, the weather begins to warm up, the trees and flowers begin to bud, and the vacationing birds return to our backyards. (Unless, of course, you live in a very warm climate and you hardly noticed winter at all!) What time of year are we talking about? SPRING, of course! And according to our current online poll, spring is a very popular season with our visitors. Have you voted for your favorite season yet? Go to our home page at http://www.gigglemoose.com then scroll down to the bottom and cast your vote today.
2. GRAND OPENING
So what's the most exciting spring news at Gigglemoose.com? Without a doubt, it's the official grand opening of our online Nature Learning Store! When we started getting requests to recommend books and educational materials, we decided to offer such products (and much more!) right here at Gigglemoose.com. That's right, now you can browse and order through a wide selection of hand-picked nature books, workbooks, curriculum, videos, music, environmental education supplies, gardening gear, and fun products for enjoying the great outdoors. Our Internet store is safe, secure, and fully guaranteed. (For complete details about shopping at Gigglemoose.com, visit the "frequently asked questions" section online.) You can also sign up to receive our upcoming mail order catalog. Every purchase you make earns Moose Moolah, which you can save up for future discounts. Keep in mind that this is just the initial launch of our online store and we're adding new products every week. There's much more to come, especially books. In fact, we expect our selection to double by April! Come wander the "aisles" at http://www.gigglemoose.com/naturestore.htm
3. ANSWERS R US
The nature questions keep coming in at Gigglemoose.com and we're doing our best to answer them all. The featured question this time around is: "Why are the oceans salty?" Do you know why? Discover the fascinating answer online at http://www.gigglemoose.com/feature_question.htm
4. HAVE YOU BEEN ENJOYING WINTER OUTSIDE?
Even though spring is now right around the corner, we hope you noticed our recent essay about enjoying the great outdoors during the winter months. There's no reason to let the cold weather bring an end to your outdoor explorations with children, and we offer ideas, safety tips, and plenty of encouragement at http://www.gigglemoose.com/artcl-winterwonderland.htm
5. THE RETURN OF GARDENING TIPS!
In our neck of the woods it's still too early to actually start tilling soil, but the gardening bug has bitten us bad so we thought it was about time to add our gardening tips back to the newsletter.
Are you planning to plant parsley this year? Keep in mind that parsley seeds are slow to germinate. Experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service inform us that it can be three or more weeks before the seeds show signs of growth above the soil. To encourage faster sprouting, soften the seeds by soaking them overnight in warm water. Then put three or four seeds in a pot full of a soilless mix (such as equal parts of peat moss and vermiculite) plus a tiny bit of ground limestone and fertilizer. Keep the media moist during the entire germination time before moving them out into the garden at the appropriate planting time in your region. So if you plant parsley in the classroom this year, you'll have to help the children remain patient! 7. TOOTING OUR OWN HORN
A couple of recent awards from fellow webmasters brought smiles to our faces. The Hope Blossoms Award is given by HopeBlossoms.com to "applaud the efforts of individuals, organizations, and businesses that share our mission of making a difference in the lives of women and children all over the world." And the Killer Web Site Award (along with its very cool shark graphic!) was presented to us by Royce Art for Web site creativity. Check out their fantastic artwork at http://www.artgame.com Thank you to both sites!
